Our shale gas wellhead flange rings are made of F22 alloy steel and comply with API 16A standards, offering the following features and advantages:
Material Properties
- Chemical Composition: F22 alloy steel primarily consists of iron, carbon, chromium, molybdenum, and other elements, with chromium content around 2.00%-2.50% and molybdenum content around 0.87%-1.13%. The addition of these alloying elements provides excellent overall performance.
- Mechanical Properties:
- Strength: High tensile and yield strength, with a minimum tensile strength of 95 KSI (655 MPa) and a minimum yield strength of 75 KSI (517 MPa), enabling it to withstand high pressures.
- Toughness: Elongation and reduction of area are 18% and 35%, respectively, providing sufficient plasticity and toughness to resist complex downhole stress conditions.
- Hardness: Hardness typically ranges between 197-237 BHN. According to NACE MR0175 standards, its maximum hardness can reach 22 HRC, meeting the wear resistance requirements for shale gas extraction.
Performance Advantages
- Excellent High-Temperature Resistance: Capable of stable long-term operation in medium-to-high temperature environments (500-650°C), maintaining good mechanical properties without excessive softening, ensuring sealing integrity and connection strength.
- Superior Creep Resistance: Minimal deformation under prolonged high-temperature and high-stress conditions, resisting deformation caused by downhole high-pressure environments and ensuring wellhead stability and reliability.
- Strong Oxidation Resistance: Forms a dense oxide layer at high temperatures, protecting the base metal from further oxidation and extending service life.
- Good Weldability: F22 alloy steel exhibits favorable weldability. With proper welding materials and techniques—such as preheating, interpass temperature control, and post-weld heat treatment—it can form reliable welded joints with other components, meeting wellhead assembly requirements.
- High Corrosion Resistance: Complies with NACE MR0175 standards, maintaining excellent corrosion resistance in shale gas environments containing acidic gases, hydrogen sulfide, and other corrosive media, preventing leaks due to corrosion
Applications
- Shale Gas Wellhead Equipment: As a critical connecting component in shale gas wellhead systems, F22 alloy steel flange rings join various wellhead components (e.g., casing, tubing, valves), ensuring sealing integrity and stability to prevent gas leaks and enhance extraction safety and efficiency.
- High-Temperature & High-Pressure Oil/Gas Wells: Suitable for wellhead flange connections in other high-temperature, high-pressure oil and gas wells, capable of withstanding complex downhole conditions while providing reliable sealing and support
Manufacturing & Processing
- Forging Process: Typically produced through forging, where high-temperature heating and forging refine the material’s internal structure, eliminating defects like porosity and improving mechanical properties and uniformity.
- Heat Treatment: Involves normalizing, quenching, and tempering to achieve desired strength and hardness. Post-treatment, F22 alloy steel exhibits optimal performance for wellhead flange ring applications.
Standards:
- API 16A Standard: Specifies requirements for wellhead and Christmas tree equipment, covering materials, design, manufacturing, and testing. F22 alloy steel flange rings adhere to API 16A, ensuring quality and performance align with industry norms for shale gas applications.
